Sarunas Jasikevicius is currently practicing with the team of Peristeri in Greece in order to stay in shape. His wish is to remain in Greece and in the past few weeks he has rejected many offers from European teams. Aris tried to sign Jasikevicius back in September but that didn't work out.
According to basketnet.gr, Aris will try again to sign the Lithuanian veteran. The article says that a common point has been reached as fas as the player's salary is concerned. Tony Parker to stay with the Spurs
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that guard Tony Parker has signed a multi-year contract extension. Per club policy details of the contract were not announced.
“We are thrilled that Tony has signed a long-term contract extension,” said Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich. “He has enjoyed an outstanding NBA career. With all that he has accomplished it is easy to forget that he is only 28-years-old. Tony is a unique talent and a wonderful young man.”
A three-time All-Star (2006, 2007 and 2009), Parker is currently in his 10th NBA season.
Selected by the Spurs with the 28th pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft, Parker has been the team’s starting point guard since the fifth game of the 2001-02 season. A month before his 20th birthday he was named to the 2002 All-Rookie First Team becoming the first foreign-born guard to earn the honor.
Parker was the starting point guard on three of the Spurs NBA Championship teams (2003, 2005 and 2007). During the team’s latest championship run, he was named the MVP of the 2007 NBA Finals. He is the only European-born player to be named an NBA Finals MVP.
During the 2005-06 season Parker led the team in both scoring and assists, becoming the first point guard in Spurs history to lead the team in scoring. For the season he averaged 18.9 points and 5.8 assists while shooting .548 (623-1,136) from the field. He ranked third in the league in FG percentage (the first time since 1973-74 that a point guard ranked in the top three in FG percentage).
Parker again made history during the 2008-09 campaign when he was named to the All-NBA Third Team, becoming the first European-born point guard to earn All-NBA honors. For the season he averaged a career-high 22.0 points and a career-best 6.9 assists.

Panionios to book Milos Vujanic
Patience is a virtue.
Panionios are very close to securing the signature of Milos Vujanic(1.90-PG). The Greek team wanted to sign the Serbian point guard in the beginning of the season but Vujanic's asking price was still quite high for Panionios. It was an asking price in the region of 220,000 euros. Since then though, that price has gone way down and now that it reached below the 100,000 euros threshold Panionios stepped in to grab a bargain.
Vujanic was offered to another Greek team as well but the team's coach decided that Vujanic is not the player he wanted even for the price of 90,000 euros. So Panionios could soon be announcing the deal with one of the best available European players. Vujanic has played for Panathinaikos in Greece before and last season he played for Murcia in the ACB averaging 17.7 points 2.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 34 games.

Partizan agreed terms with James Gist
Partizan Belgrade added a defensive specialist.
James Gist(2.06-PF/C) was voted in the best defensive team of his conference when he was playing in Maryland. He's got remarkable athletic skills that make him a great rebounder and also a great shot-blocker. He has played in Europe for Biella in Italy and Lokomotiv in Russia and lately he has been trying to earn an NBA contract by taking part in the preseason camp of the San Antonio Spurs.
The deal hasn't been made official yet but rumor has it that Gist will be with Partizan by tomorrow. He averaged 3.3 points and 3 rebounds in 4 games with the San Antonio Spurs during preseason.

Besiktas' president to travel to the US for Iverson

Istanbul (CNN) -- The president of Turkey's Besiktas basketball team says he has a verbal agreement to sign a $2 million contract with former NBA most valuable player Allen Iverson.
"I'm going to New York on Friday," said Seref Yalcin, the president of the Besiktas basketball team. "I talked to Allen and his manager yesterday, Gary Moore. He said there's no problem; he's able to sign. Friday, I'll be there, and we'll probably sign Sunday. And Monday, I'll bring him with me."
Yalcin said he was offering the former NBA star $1.5 million in addition to a half-million dollar signing bonus for a two-year contract.
"This is a major advertisement for Turkish basketball. Besiktas' value as a brand has increased. Everyone is talking about this and Besiktas," Yalcin said.
The Besiktas president predicted that Iverson would take his team to the top of Turkey's Champions League. "He's going to bring lots of fans into our arena," Yalcin said. "If he plays with even 50 percent of his NBA capacity, that will be enough. This will also be good for Turkish basketball in general since he will inspire the youngsters here."
Yalcin said he has offered Iverson housing, transport, school for his five children and an assistant/translator who will be on call 24 hours a day to help the American athlete operate in Turkey's sprawling commercial capital. Yalcin predicted that Iverson would be able to play with Besiktas in a game scheduled for November 7. The Turkish basketball season has just begun, and Besiktas has a record of one win and one loss. Iverson joined the NBA in 1996 and played 10 seasons in Philadelphia before moving among Denver, Detroit, Memphis and Philadelphia again.

Efes Pilsen signed Nikola Vujcic
Desperate situations require desperate measures.
Efes Pilsen needed a center desperately, so they went ahead and signed Nikola Vujcic(2.11-C). The Croatian veteran has been one of the best centers in the Euroleague throughout his career but the last 2 seasons showcased a slow and cumbersome player who didn't live up to his former glory.
The fans of Efes Pilsen weren't too happy about this choice either that contains a great amount of risk. Vujcic started the season in the club where he started his career, KK Split, playing for free in order to stay fit. The deal was announced by the official website of Efes Pilsen and it's valid until the end of the season. He played 2 games for KK Split averaging 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Iverson ever closer to Turkey
Allen Iverson(notes) has agreed in principle to sign an incentive-laden, two-year, $4 million contract with Besiktas of the Turkish professional league, sources told Yahoo! Sports on Sunday night.
Iverson plans to sign the contract this week, the sources said, and is expected to report to Besiktas the week of Oct. 31. Allen Iverson can make up to $2 million playing in Turkey this season.
Iverson’s contract will give him an opt-out clause after this season. There’s no escape clause during the season for Iverson to leave Turkey and return to the NBA.
Iverson, 35, could make his debut for Besiktas on Nov. 6 in a game against Bornova. Besiktas played its first game of the season on Oct. 19 and is 1-1 in league standings.
Iverson has solicited more lucrative offers to play in China this season, but has been intrigued with the prospects of playing in Istanbul. After controversial exits with his last three franchises – Detroit, Memphis and Philadelphia – Iverson exhausted interest from NBA teams. Despite averaging 26.7 points in his 14-year NBA career, Iverson ran out of opportunities in the league.
Besiktas is considered third among the three most powerful franchises in the Turkish first division. The club has a strong following, and team officials believe Iverson could be an immense gate draw.

Things get violent during players' strike in Greece

It started yesterday and today the police special forces intervened, in order to remove the protesters from the game of AEK vs Ikaros, the 1st day of the regular season(2010-2011) in Greece. A group of members of the Hellenic Professional Basketball Players Association(PSAK) gathered in the middle of the court in order to delay the game or stop it if possible.
Police special forces were already present at the scene and tried to forcefully evacuate the group of 20 or so players that were sitting in the middle of the court. After about 15 minutes of "prodding" by the police special forces the players decided to leave themselves. Eventually the situation diffused and the game started but not before things got slightly out of hand as you can see in the video found at the end of this article. At the moment the Greek league is being ridiculed around the world because the people who run the league, directly or indirectly, are still doing nothing. Another member of PSAK resigned today, that was Demos Dikoudis, who had a heated debate with the president Lazaros Papadopoulos. One might say that things will start moving towards a certain direction when it serves someone's agenda.
What will come out of all this is yet uncertain. The players' association is losing members, its unity has been compromised and the powers that be are still waiting for the dust to settle before they just pick up the wreckage. Basketball used to be the number one sport in Greece once upon a time. It's the only team sport that gives Greece medals consistently yet it has been abandoned in such a way that created one of the most corrupt pro leagues in Europe. It managed to find its way back to the limelight again, but this time through conflict and violence. However they say that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

The San Antonio Spurs are scouting Milos Teodosic
And his contract is running out this season..
According to Serbian portal, sportal.rs, the vice-president of the San Antonio Spurs, Dennis Lindsey was at the SEF stadium in Athens a few days ago watching the game of Olympiakos against Real Madrid. According to the Serbian article the reason he was there was to scout the Serbian star, Milos Teodosic, whose contract with Olympiakos expires at the end of this season.
Obviously in Olympiakos they have enough money to offer Teodosic a very big contract so it is also possible that his contract will be renewed before the end of this season.

Lazaros Papadopoulos to leave PAOK - Chaos in the Greek league
The Greek players strike has just started in Greece but it seems that unity is absent on their camp.
Lazaros Papadopoulos(2.13-C) is going to leave PAOK according to basketnet.gr. The president of the Hellenic Professional Basketball Players Association, also known as PSAK in Greece (www.psak.gr), will be leaving the team of PAOK according to the article. Papadopoulos has not played a single game for PAOK yet and he probably won't even get to play one. PAOK played against Panathinaikos yesterday using only his 5 non-Greek players.
The article says that Papadopoulos is aware of the heat that he has brought down on his team for declaring the strike and standing by it. Other members of the Association were too scared to go against their wealthy bosses (Olympiakos and Panathinaikos) and defied the strike decision. They were also scared about the loss of their earnings by stating, "who's going to compensate us if we go on strike".
Obviously the loss of their earnings concerns them more than the plight of their fellow players in the lower leagues that don't even have medical insurance when they play. It was another day that damaged the integrity and the dignity of the suffering Greek league. At least Ioannis Bouroussis submitted his resignation as the vice-president of the Association that was the only right thing to do. He chose money and obedience over his fellow countrymen after all. Others weren't so courteous.
What happens next? All the possibilities are open to exploration at this stage. It only took one day to debunk all the "Greek icons" like Diamantidis, Papaloukas and Spanoulis. It also took only day to display the true bosses of the league. To them no other team matters.

Fabricio Oberto managed to find an NBA contract
The Portland Trail Blazers have reached a contract agreement with free-agent big man Fabricio Oberto to fill a hole on their front line, according to sources close to the situation.
Sources told ESPN.com that Oberto -- who has turned down several offers from Europe in recent weeks because he was determined to keep playing in the NBA -- is joining the Blazers on a one-year deal to fortify their depth as Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla continue to recover from the serious knee injuries they suffered last season.
Oberto, 35, played for Washington last season after spending four seasons in San Antonio alongside countryman Manu Ginobili.
On the eve of the 2009 draft, San Antonio dealt Oberto to Detroit as part of a three-team deal that landed Richard Jefferson with the Spurs. Oberto was immediately released by the Pistons, enabling him to sign with the Wizards.
The Blazers, who count Marcus Camby as their only healthy true center, have been looking for a veteran big man with Oden and Przybilla still healing.
But adding Oberto will require the Blazers to release two players before opening night rosters are finalized Monday because they're already carrying 16 players, one over the league limit.

The latest NBA cuts
It's bargain season again!
This is the time of the year where the pre-season show the exit door to a plethora of basketball players that didn't make it into an NBA roster for one reason or another. Obviously the season is not over for these players who will be back on the market searching for a contract overseas. Some of them prefer the half empty courts of the NBDL and the measly salaries with the hope of being reactivated again sometime during the regular season or the playoffs.
Other players prefer the less glamorous courts of Europe or the latest trend, the big spenders of China. Contracts in China are quite lucrative compared to the average European contract. However there is one drawback. Basketball in China is still in its infantile stages and their stats there are not really a testament to a player's skill or capacity to play in the NBA or even Europe. Nevertheless this is the list of players that very soon could be signing their new contract for the season. It's also a good time for some teams to grab a bargain if their initial choices didn't live up to the challenge.
We'll focus mainly on October as it was reported by the official NBA page. You'll find that some of these players are already playing for teams in Europe.

Aris interested in Dwayne Jones and Eric Boateng (updated)
They're the 2 likeliest candidates.
A good center is hard to find and an affordable center is even harder to find. In Aris they have some candidates in mind but it seems that these 2 are the likeliest candidates according to Athlitika Nea.
Dwayne Jones(2.11-C) is participating in the pre-season camp of the Phoenix Suns at the moment but rumor has it he will be waived soon by the Suns. Jones graduated from St Josephs. In 2004-05, Jones was the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, and a member of the All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive year. He ranked fifth in rebounds (11.6) and blocks (3.0) in the nation, and led the Atlantic 10 in both categories. Although scoring was never his strongest skill he is a formidable presence in the low-post defensively. He was signed by the Timbewolves in 2005 and after a short pass via the Florida Flame he was traded to Boston and from there to Cleveland. He also tried his luck in Europe with Efes Pilsen and Red Star but it didn't work out.
The other candidate is Eric Boateng(2.08-C) who was recently offered to the team. Boateng will soon be released from the Denver Nuggets. He graduated from Arizona State last season and he is one of the biggest hopes of British basketball. He started in Duke but after one season he was transferred to Arizona State. He is also a member of the British National Team. In his last season with Arizona State he averaged 8.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in 33 games.
Latest information from Aris suggests that they are negotiating with the newly released Aaron Miles(1.85-PG), who was waived by the Golden State Warriors on the 20th. The president and the head coach of Aris are in negotiations with the Greek representative of the player to find out whether he will rejoin them. This means that both Pierre Pierce(1.92-PG) and Bryant Dunston(2.01-PF/C) could be replaced within a few days.

Khalid El-Amin to join Lietuvos Rytas
One of the two Lithuanian biggest clubs Lietuvos Rytas has found a replacement for the injured point guard Jerry Johnson.
The Lithuanian champions agreed terms with the 31-year-old American guard Khalid El-Amin, who has been signed to a one-year deal.
“Lietuvos Rytas have acquired a good basketball player. I’ve coached him for nearly three years. He’s a very good individually – extremely strong and quick. He can break down almost anyone one-on-one, but he might have been a bit lazy on defense against weaker opponents, but he’s able to defend very well,” told Rimas Girskis, a Lithuanian coach, who worked with El-Amin during his time with Azovmash in Mariupol.
The seasoned veteran has spent the biggest part of his career playing in Ukraine and Turkey, playing for Budivelnik Kiev last season and scoring 20.5 points, dishing out 5.1 assists per game as well as adding 3.1 rebounds on an average.
“He is a willing passer and I sometimes even had to encourage him to take the game more on himself. He was our best player and it was better for the team if he played more on his own. I want to congratulate Lietuvos Rytas on a good acquisition,” the Lithuanian coach, who’s currently working with Nevezis Kedainiai. “You couldn’t tell that he’s a basketball player from first sight. I remember that I was surprised that a man of this build can play basketball all together. The truth is that his body is one big mountain of muscles.”
El-Amin saw a short-term stint with the Chicago Bulls, the team who drafted him with 34th pick in the 2000 NBA draft. The guard averaged 6.3 points and 2.9 assists per game in his only season amongst the basketball’s elite in 2000-2001.

Lockdown in the Greek League, the players are on strike
Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse.
The Hellenic Professional Basketball Players Association, also known as PSAK in Greece (www.psak.gr) have declared that the are on strike. What follows is a loose translation of their announcement.
The General Assembly of the Hellenic Professional Basketball Players Association decided to go indefinitely on strike. The votes were 151 in favor and 24 against this decision and the strike affects the players of the A1 and A2 leagues. We Hellenic Basketball Players do not accept to be ridiculed by the Greek State as they have already agreed in writing to meet all of our demands. This was done 10 months ago.
The Association's decision is to go on strike until our demands are enforced as actual laws. We hope that this decision will be supported by the Teams Association(ESAKE) and also all the rationally thinking team owners, so that we can all together demand the changes that Greek Basketball needs. In any case, even if it's just by ourselves we will demand our rights.
Our list of demands.
1. Insurance cover for all professional players.
2. Full medical cover for all professional players.
3. The reopening of the mutual fund.
4. The right to be employed if our current teams do not pay us.
5. Immediate decisions from the Economic Dispute Committees.
6. Setting up the Collective Employment Agreement that was disbanded in 2008.

The resurrected Maroussi are on a signing spree
After they almost lynched the ambitious wannabe administrators they are now back on track.
And there was a miracle after all with Maroussi. In the last board meeting of the shareholders the wannabe administrators of Maroussi were almost lynched by a few dozens of angry fans who decided to take the situation in their hands. In this case it was probably the best option. The fans attacked using eggs and yoghurt pots among other things.
The major shareholder of Maroussi, Aris Vovos cancelled the contracts he had with them and they voted a new administration. Now the team are on a signing spree with Vaggelis Alexandris as the head coach. Their main targets are Ioannis Gagaloudis(1.87-PG), Nestoras Kommatos(2.03-SF), Dimitris Haritopoulos(2.07-PF/C), Feliks Kojadinovic(1.96-SG/SF), Ousmane Cisse(2.05) and probably others to follow.
In Maroussi they're hoping that the impending strike of the Greek players in the Greek league will take place and that will give them a few more days to prepare although they are seriously late in getting a team ready for the league. They have already lost their participation in the Euroleague Qualifiers and the Greek Cup.

Greek League : the nail in the coffin? (updated)

Things could get pretty nasty for the Greek A1 league. There is a possibility that one of the biggest sponsors in the league could back out and this could prove disastrous for quite a few teams.
Let's start by saying that things are really, really bad in the Greek League. The condition of the Greek League resembles remarkably the condition of the Greek economy, in other words it's in shambles. The people who run the League are simply lightweight and this can be proved by the recurring problems that appear each and every year in the League for the last decade or so. Teams are allowed to participate in the League without many of the necessary requirements and when you do it for one team you have to do it for every other team that fits, (or doesn't in this case) the bill. Nonetheless the vast majority of Greek teams are still owing a lot of money to players and some of them even reach as far back as season 2005-2006.
Then there are so many fronts in the 'Cold War' that has plagued the league between the people who run it, the players' union, the referees, the clubs themselves and last but certainly not least, the Greek Federation.
The latest problem comes from a big sponsorship from OPAP, the Greek betting company that enjoys(not for long) the market monopoly in sports betting. OPAP would offer the measly amount of 250,000 euros to each team that would bear their logo on the front their shirt. I use the word 'measly' lightly if we are to consider the millions that OPAP are offering to the Greek Football League.
Nonetheless there are some teams that are not happy with this league. Partially because they promised a larger amount and because they have their own agenda. The team that threatens to bring this about is one of the Greek powerhouses, one that has started its own private little war against the League not caring about the consequences. There are 2 more teams that could potentially follow through. One starved for money, and another one that could sure use the extra cash to establish themselves in Europe.
The problem here is that if even one of the teams backs out, then the deal with OPAP is over. This means that many teams could lose the 250,000 euros that they were hoping for. For some it's half or a third of their budget. And then you'll have more players leaving their teams, more player suing for money you might even get teams dropping from the league much like Olympia did last season.
(EDIT : I forgot to clarify one thing and that is that OPAP would back out of the sponsoring deal if another betting company were to sponsor a team in the Greek league. This is what the 3 other teams are considering at the moment as they could secure a sponsorship from another betting company that would surpass that of 250,000 euros. The betting market is opening in Greece and OPAP will soon lose its monopoly.)
Everybody is calling for reform but nobody's taking action. Obviously there are far more important problems in Greece at the moment and one might think that there isn't enough money in basketball for the government to care. But then again the people that call the shots in all areas of basketball seem to focus on fighting each other instead of uniting their forces to help the ailing league.
But as my friend greekbball.blogspot.com says, at least we have a new logo!!

Trifunovic and Maskoliunas to man the bench of Lietuvos Rytas
The coaching staff changes in Lietuvos Rytas camp, which began with the sacking of head coach Drazen Anzulovic, were completed on Monday with the signing of two new specialists.
Aleksandr Trifunovic will return to the side from Vilnius to take the head coach’s position while Darius Maskoliunas, who arrives from KK Kaunas, will be the Serb’s assistant.
“A coaching staff like this is the best there is in the market at this point in time. Trifunovic knows the working environment in the club so he will not need to adjust to how everything works here. He is the best foreign specialist we could allow ourselves to invite. This is his second go with Lietuvos Rytas and I’m sure he’ll use it well,” said Jonas Vainauskas, the club’s General Manager.
Darius Maskoliunas was at the helm of Zalgiris Kaunas in the end of last season before being sacked in the midst of the Lithuanian league (LKL) finals series.
“Maskoliunas is currently the best Lithuanian coach, who we were able to invite over to our club. His knowledge and experience both as a player and as a coach in Zalgiris, the time he spent in Euroleague, will help to build a great coaching tandem,” Vainauskas added.
As a result of the rotations amongst the coaches, the Latvian specialist and former Lietuvos Rytas player Roberts Stelmahers was sent to coach the club’s second team Perlas, the position he held last year.
“Working with Perlas and finishing a three year period will be better for Robis himself, than just helping out a little for Lietuvos Rytas,” the General Manager of the club explained. “Everything is in its places now – all the changes were timely and correct. How correct? Only time can show, but this is the best I could have done now, under circumstances like this.”

Aris and Mazzon settled their differences via FAT
The club announced a few days earlier that they had won the case but not all details were published.
On September 30th, Aris BC announced via their official website that the FIBA Arbitral Tribunal. The announcement from FIBA was as follows:
The Italian coach Andrea Mazzon and the basketball agents Elias Diamantopoulos and Dario Santrolli filed a claim against the Greek club KAE Aris Thessaloniki BC for outstanding salaries and agent fees. The coach requested full payment of his salaries for the 2009/2010 season as well as compensation for the damage to his reputation, alleging that the club had unjustly terminated the contract and had failed to pay his salary. In its answer, the club denied the above claims, submitting that proceedings before ordinary courts had already been initiated and that FAT proceedings should therefore be stayed. Additionally, the club argued that FAT had no jurisdiction to hear the case and that, in any event, a mutual termination agreement had been entered into by the club and the coach. The Arbitrator decided to partially uphold the claim.
source : fiba.com
The Hoop was also implicated in this case as it is mentioned as a source on page 16 of the FAT Award. It was a source used by the claimant to prove that Aris had intention to fire coach Mazzon if he were to fail beating Maroussi and thus proceeding to the next step of the Euroleague qualifying rounds.
Nonetheless neither Aris nor Maroussi got exactly what they wanted. Aris are still to pay compensation to Mazzon but Mazzon won't be able to claim his entire season's salaries as compensation either. So Mazzon won't leave empty handed and Aris won't have to financially bleed out anymore.

It's quite interesting how they let it fall apart like that.
It was the team that impressed everyone last season both in Greece and the Euroleague. Much like Partizan Belgrade, Maroussi did have a small budget for all their player contracts that barely exceeded a million euros. However with very good coaching and smart player choices they managed to reach the TOP-16 of the Euroleague by defeating both Greek powerhouses Olympiakos and Panathinaikos during the season as they went along. But all things come to an end. The beginning of the end started with Maroussi being kicked out of the Euroleague Qualifying rounds for not submitting all the necessary documents to ULEB. But it actually started before that.
The major shareholder of Maroussi, Aris Vovos has abandoned the team for quite some time now. The players spent the entire last season receiving miniscule amounts of money and it's no wonder that most of them have fled to other destinations where the teams pay their players. He also left the team to be dismantled by incompetent people and he didn't even life a finger to change the collision course of the team. I guess he might wanted the team to go down after all.
Maroussi did have a decent presence in both Europe and Greece in the last few years and that needs to be said. It was more like a side project, a hobby if you like of someone with considerable amounts of money but the team itself had no significant amounts of fans. It wasn't a commercial team not by a long shot. Lately though the team has been left to its own devices and it was handed over to people with no experience in professional basketball. And of course these people have now disappeared after they ridiculed themselves, the team and Greek basketball in general.
According to basketnet.gr, the team will not be able to participate in the A1 league. They won't be able to submit a guarantee cheque in order to participate in the League or the Cup. They no longer have a roster of players or a head coach.
The situation in Maroussi reflects in a way the situation that exists at the moment in the Greek League. Where rules are bent to no end and there is no reliability on its proceedings or standards, let alone the officials that run it. Maroussi will be demoted to a semi-pro team and fall 2 divisions below. The Greek League will continue with 13 teams or 14. Unless of course a miracle happens in the next few hours..

Kostas Sloukas to play for Aris on loan
They didn't waste any time after Verginis was injured.
Dimitris Verginis(1.91-PG/SG) got sidelined for about 6 months after a ligament rupture injury during a Greek Cup game against Peristeri. In Aris they lost no time and made a deal with Olympiakos to get Kostas Sloukas(1.98-PG/SG) on loan for one season. Sloukas won't be able to get enough playing time in Olympiakos and Aris needed another guard for the frontcourt so everyone's happy. Sloukas is a player of Olympiakos until the end of season 2011-2012.
Well everyone except some of the fans of the team who didn't like that move considering degrading for their team. However, Sloukas is a fan of Aris, one that actually has a season ticket so this part of his personality will probably be empasised during the official announcement tomorrow. Sloukas has been a long standing member of the Greek Youth National Teams having won many medals in the last 3 years. The deal has been struck for some days now but it hadn't been made official due to certain financial details. There is also a possibility that Aris will try to get Sloukas on-loan for season 2011-2012 with a view to sign him afterwards as a free player.

Baskonia invest in Dejan Musli
Two weeks before the Euroleague Regular Season opens, Spanish champion Saski Baskonia has reinforced its frontcourt with the signing of Dejan Musli, one of the most prolific young big men in the world, to a five-year contract.
Musli (212, 19) was a two-time MVP of the Nike International Junior Tournament, in 2008 and 2009. His team, FMP, was crowned European junior champion at that prestigious event during the 2008 Final Four in Madrid and the 2009 Final Four in Berlin. In between winning those trophies, Musli debuted on FMP's pro team in the 2007-08 ULEB cup, as a 16-year-old. A year later, in the same competition, he averaged 3.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and .6 blocks in under 14 minutes per game.
Musli often seemed like a man among boys playing at the junior level. In one of those junior tournaments, he averages 22.6 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.8 rebounds against the best junior teams in Europe. Musli, who was on a 10-day tryout with Saski Baskonia last month, will be expected to bring his rebounding skills first to the club, but cannot be counted out as an impact player on both ends of the floor despite his youth

Shermadini to play on loan in Olimpija
It's better than being sidelined.
Giorgi Shermadini(2.16-C) will actually be the first player of Panathinaikos to play on a loan agreement for another team. The Georgian center has not convinced Zeljko Obradovic that he deserves a place in the final roster of Panathinaikos and so he will play this season for Olimpija Lubljana and Juri Zdovc according to prasinanea.gr.
The Greek site that is affiliated to Panathinaikos says that this new development might change the plans for Giorgos Bogris who is now likely to stay in Panathinaikos. However there is no shortage of centers in Panathinaikos and that yet remains to be seen.

3 candidates to borrow Bogris from Panathinaikos
Giorgos Bogris will be playing for another Greek team next season.
Giorgos Bogris(2.09-C) didn't follow the rest of the team of Panathinaikos for the preparation and he is still in Athens waiting to find out which team will he be playing in the next season. According to prasinanea.gr, there are 3 teams that are after him. Paok, Peristeri and AEK.
Peristeri and AEK are based in Athens so the player could be close to home and he could potentially get some more playing time than what he would in Paok. It seems though that all 3 teams cannot afford any part of Bogris' contract so the decision hasn't been made yet. Bogris is part of the Greek Youth National Teams.
